Five of Europe’s leading leagues have now played at least three rounds of the 2026-27 season, and the early tables are starting to separate real form from opening-week noise. Every figure below is drawn from the football-data.org competition feed for each league, retrieved on 15 September 2026, and counts completed matches only.
Premier League: Arsenal and Manchester City Level at the Top
Four matches played, four won, twelve points each. Arsenal and Manchester City are separated only by goal difference, with Arsenal’s defence the tighter of the two: eight goals scored and one conceded, against City’s eight scored and two conceded. Both sides have been efficient rather than explosive, and neither has yet dropped a point.
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arsenal | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 1 | +7 | 12 |
| 2 | Manchester City | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 2 | +6 | 12 |
| 3 | Leeds United | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 7 | 3 | +4 | 8 |
| 4 | Hull City | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 5 | 2 | +3 | 8 |
| 5 | Brighton & Hove Albion | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 13 | 5 | +8 | 7 |
| 6 | Chelsea | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 10 | 9 | +1 | 7 |
| 7 | Brentford | 4 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 7 | 4 | +3 | 6 |
| 8 | Liverpool | 4 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 6 | 4 | +2 | 6 |
Brighton’s goal difference is the best in the division despite sitting fifth, a consequence of a 13-goal return in four matches. Liverpool and Brentford remain unbeaten but have drawn three apiece, which is why two of the season’s strongest squads are currently outside the top six.
La Liga: Barcelona Perfect Through Five
Barcelona have won all five of their league matches, scoring 21 goals and conceding four. That is the largest goal difference in any of Europe’s top five divisions at this stage. Real Madrid have matched them for wins in all but one round and sit three points behind, with Real Betis level on points with Madrid but a far narrower goal difference.
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Barcelona | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 21 | 4 | +17 | 15 |
| 2 | Real Madrid | 5 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 14 | 4 | +10 | 12 |
| 3 | Real Betis | 5 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 7 | 6 | +1 | 12 |
| 4 | Deportivo Alavés | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 11 | 5 | +6 | 10 |
| 5 | Atlético de Madrid | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 10 | 6 | +4 | 10 |
| 6 | Sevilla | 5 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 8 | 6 | +2 | 10 |
| 7 | Deportivo La Coruña | 5 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 9 | 6 | +3 | 9 |
| 8 | Espanyol | 5 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 8 | 5 | +3 | 7 |
The congestion between fourth and seventh is worth noting: four clubs are separated by a single point, and only four goals separate Alavés, Atlético and Sevilla on goal difference. Deportivo La Coruña are the division’s only unbeaten side outside the top three.
Serie A: Roma Lead Inter on Goal Difference
Roma and Inter have identical records after four rounds: four wins from four. Roma’s defence is the differentiator, with a single goal conceded against Inter’s six. Como and Lazio are two points back, both still unbeaten.
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Roma | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 12 | 1 | +11 | 12 |
| 2 | Inter Milan | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 13 | 6 | +7 | 12 |
| 3 | Como | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 9 | 4 | +5 | 10 |
| 4 | Lazio | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 6 | 3 | +3 | 10 |
| 5 | Cagliari | 4 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 2 | +2 | 9 |
| 6 | AC Milan | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 7 | 4 | +3 | 8 |
| 7 | Frosinone | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 7 | 4 | +3 | 7 |
| 8 | Juventus | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 4 | +2 | 7 |
Inter’s 13 goals are the joint-highest in the league, but they have conceded six in four games, including a 5-3 win on the most recent matchday. Milan and Juventus, two of the sides expected to contest the top four, are sixth and eighth respectively.
Bundesliga: Freiburg Top After Three Rounds
The smallest sample of the five leagues also produces the tightest cluster. Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund have both won all three matches, with Freiburg ahead on goal difference after scoring ten and conceding one.
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | SC Freiburg | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 1 | +9 | 9 |
| 2 | Borussia Dortmund | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 8 | 2 | +6 | 9 |
| 3 | FC Augsburg | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 9 | 3 | +6 | 7 |
| 4 | Bayern München | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 7 | 2 | +5 | 7 |
| 5 | RB Leipzig | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 9 | 3 | +6 | 6 |
| 6 | SV Elversberg | 3 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 8 | 7 | +1 | 6 |
| 7 | Bayer Leverkusen | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 8 | 5 | +3 | 4 |
| 8 | Mainz 05 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 6 | 3 | +3 | 4 |
Bayern are unbeaten but have already been held once, and Leverkusen’s four points from three matches is the slower start of the two sides most commonly tipped for the title. Three rounds is a small sample, and the table will look considerably different once the European calendar begins.
Ligue 1: PSG Seventh After Four Rounds
Lille, Monaco and Rennes are level on ten points, and Lyon are unbeaten in fourth. Paris Saint-Germain have won once in four, drawing two and losing one, and sit seventh on five points with a goal difference of zero.
| Pos | Team | P | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | Pts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lille | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 7 | 2 | +5 | 10 |
| 2 | AS Monaco | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 6 | 2 | +4 | 10 |
| 3 | Stade Rennais | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 8 | 5 | +3 | 10 |
| 4 | Olympique Lyonnais | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 6 | 2 | +4 | 8 |
| 5 | Paris FC | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 6 | 2 | +4 | 8 |
| 6 | RC Strasbourg | 4 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 9 | 8 | +1 | 7 |
| 7 | Paris Saint-Germain | 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 6 | 0 | 5 |
| 8 | Stade Brestois | 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 6 | 0 | 5 |
Lyon and Paris FC are level on points, goal difference and goals scored, which is why the feed lists them at the same position. The same applies to PSG and Brest in seventh.
What These Tables Do and Do Not Show
Four rounds is not enough to establish a trend. A single match can move a club several places at this stage, and goal difference is doing much of the ranking work in the Premier League, Serie A and the Bundesliga. The figures above describe what has happened, not what will happen: attacking and defensive rates computed from three or four matches carry wide margins, and the congested middle of the La Liga table illustrates how quickly gaps close.
The one pattern worth watching is the number of unbeaten sides sitting outside the top four in three of the five leagues, which suggests that early draws are doing as much to shape the tables as early wins.
